Co-Parenting

Co-Parenting or shared custody is the situation most likely to marriage life, although initially it can be complicated and requires a great effort on both sides. Now, it seems that justice is giving more to man and is betting more on shared custody. Researches have indicated that each case is different and you have to look at it with a magnifying glass.

The Co-Parenting or shared custody arguments focus on the benefits for the child, and your children can maintain a healthy relationship with both parents, which mitigates the negative effects that the absence of one of the parents can have. Healthy workload of former spouses, create better relationships between parents and children, improve cooperation between parents, and decrease the risk of a dispute over custody.

Some researchers have indicated that the key to successful co-parenting / shared custody is to separate the personal relationship with your ex-husband or ex-wife from the co-parenting relationship. It may be helpful to start thinking of your relationship with your ex-partner as a completely new one:

  1. One that is entirely about the well-being of your children, and
  2. The relationship has to be built not about you or him/her.

Your marriage may be over, but your family is not; doing what is best for your kids is your most important priority. The first step to being a mature, responsible co-parent is to always put your children's needs ahead of your own.
